March 26, 2014, Lapu-Lapu City Cebu: The much awaited public skate park in Cebu was launched today in Lapu-Lapu City. Together with the local government unit of Lapu- Lapu city headed by honorable Mayor Paz Corro Radaza and Cebu’s very own skate athlete Dandoy Tongco the ground breaking ceremony of the 1st city funded public skate park was fulfilled to support the growing skateboarding scene in the city.

Mayor Paz Radaza’s kindredness to support skateboarder’s passion about the sport gave birth to the idea of having a rightful place for skateboarders to practice and hone their skills.

Mayor Radaza saw the importance of the public skate park facility that will serve as a training ground for future skate athletes to help alleviate any untoward accidents in the street. “I have seen the need to provide you with a place where you can practice and play without risking your lives riding on the streets. I don’t want you to endanger your lives as you push your wheels to success.” Mayor Radaza said on her speech.

After his successful appearance in the hit skate webisode, Greener Pastures Offshore, Grupo Nopo’s top caliber rider Dandoy Tongco became an inspiration to fellow Cebuanos. Even Mayor Radaza was inspired by Dandoy’s story of perseverance and his passion for the sport of longboarding.

The Lapu-Lapu Skate Park is expected to be completed 90 days after the ground breaking ceremony just in time for the Lapu-Lapu City Charter Day Celebration this June.

April 13, 2014, Dumanjug, Cebu Philippines: Patrick Switzer (Canada) proved that he is still the fastest man on the hills of Dumanjug when he flawlessly earned the title of being the first champion of the 1st IDF world qualifying race in the Philippines followed by Dandoy Tongco (Philippines), Billy Bones Meiners (USA) in third and Dean Mondt (Netherlands) in fourth place during the 3rd leg of the 5th Visayan Longboarding Trilogy last April 13, 2014.

DSC_0543-1Dandoy Tongco, 5th VLT traditional race champion trailing behind his good friend and mentor Patrick Switzer during the wet and stoke IDF world qualifying series in Dumanjug, Cebu Philippines.

Patrick won his first race in Dumanjug during the 3rd Visayan Longboarding Trilogy way back in 2012. Since then, Switzer fell in love with the Philippines. Patrick maintained his speed and momentum during the entire race. Everyone thought that the rain will have an effect in the performance of the racers giving them more challenging heats. Dandoy Tongco, one of Philippines’ top caliber downhill racers placed 2nd. Dandoy and Patrick almost lost their standings during the finals when they had a crucial board contact during the final race. (See IDF article, Dumajug stoke, click here.)

In the women’s division, Tamara Prader (Switzerland) secured the championship title over Ayumi Oride (Japan), Kara Urbiztondo (Philippines and Gemma Holland (Austalia).

The juniors division scored a highly favorable heat battle from the crowed as the young and talented athletes battled it out in a wet asphalt pavement of Dumajug. It was Pantoy Solasco, the Dumajug’s local crowed favorite snatched the victory over his long time friend and fellow Grupo Nopo brother Bodeck Rauyan (Philippines), Harry Clarke (Hongkong) and RJ (Philippines).

We all know that the pride of Lapu-lapu City Cebu is now residing in California with the Loaded Boards crew. Just weeks after Dandoy arrived, Loaded took him for a skate trip in one of the biggest longboard event in the US, the 6th Central Mass Longboard Festival. There, Dandoy’s fans have seen his style and skill up close and personal. Jon Sevik filmed Dandoy and he came up with this one minute video. Enjoy!

In between the shenanigans, there just so happened to be a few amazing roads worth hopping on a skateboard for.

Fast, steep and fun. It was an all out friendly freeride.
